Technology
The TSI VRP Model Active Voltage Regulator provides a significant improvement on the slow traditional, electromechanical AVR, the electronic tap-switching AVR, and the dual-conversion AVR. It provides many of the attractive features of these technologies without trading off performance and efficiency. Today's Sensitive Controls Environment requires a responsive, efficient, and consistent voltage sterilization source.
Pulse Width Modulated with Intergate BI Polar Transistor Converter
The PWM topology is a buck-boost transformer with a primary to secondary ratio of 5:1 for a voltage correction of +/-20% (Figure Above). The input phase is connected to one end of the secondary, while the critical load is connected to the other end of the secondary with the current returning to the source via the neutral wire. The control voltage is imposed on the primary winding by connecting one end of the primary to the incoming phase, while the other end of the primary is connected to the neutral. In this manner, 20% of the input voltage will be added to the secondary winding. If the connections are reversed, the voltage will drop 20% as the magnetic flux imposed by the primary winding is bucking the secondary winding. Input Circuit breakers provide for component and load overcurrent protection.

Most Data Center Designed UPS Systems are built to withstand minutes if not longer of complete power absence. Being designed to make almost perfect power until it is not there, systems are designed with highly efficient inverter systems and other components. Loads on these systems are often constant, non-reactive loads, and low in-rush. These systems, however, does not perform well in an active load environment, high in-rush current environment, and take in large input windows of voltage to repair.
